Madinat Makadi Golf Resort is a popular destination in Egypt and the Middle East’s ever-growing golf market. Makadi has the longest 18-hole championship course in the region. It also has a 9-hole par 3 executive course.
The resort uses 60 golf carts to help players move around the large property. They had been using Trojan lead-acid batteries but saw the benefits of lithium-ion technology. One key benefit of converting to lithium is range.
Madinat Makadi began converting its 2-seat and 4-seat golf carts to Trojan OnePack™ 48V 105Ah Lithium Battery Packs. Each cart now runs for three 18-hole rounds—over 22,500 total yards on grass, pavement, and hilly terrain—on a single charge.
“We did a three-week trial with the Trojan OnePack batteries, and it was fantastic. By the third round, the battery still wasn’t going into the red. That was very, very impressive straight away,” Burton recalled.
Installing lithium batteries in golf carts is easy
In addition to being the ultimate power upgrade, OnePack battery packs were easy for resort staff to install in the golf carts.
The full fleet of golf carts was equipped with Trojan lithium batteries in a week.
Faster charging and low-maintenance equal less downtime in desert heat
The ability to travel up to 60 miles on a single charge helps golfers enjoy their time on the course without interruption. OnePack lithium-ion batteries charge faster than the lead-acid batteries previously used and are maintenance-free. The result is less golf cart downtime.
Madinat Makadi’s Red Sea Riviera address creates some unique environmental conditions. With an operating temperature of -4°F to 140°F (-20°C to 60°C), the OnePack batteries have withstood the Egyptian desert climate.
Innovative technology complemented by partner support & training
The customer experience doesn’t end when the batteries are delivered. Trojan’s local distributor, Hydroturf, provided exceptional support during the golf cart conversion and installation.
The Hydroturf team worked with Madinat Makadi staff to establish proper installation and maintenance procedures that maximize the batteries’ life. These practices help ensure a greater return on investment (ROI).
Hydroturf also trained the Madinat Makadi Golf Resort team on proper charging and operating procedures. In addition to ROI, proper maintenance ensures safe and optimal battery performance.
Safety is a core principle for Trojan Battery, which is why they use Lithium Iron Phosphate (LiFePO4) formula for all OnePack golf cart batteries.
Additionally, Trojan employs four levels of safety redundancy, five internal temperature sensors, and a self-protecting battery monitoring system.
