Snapshot

Mayakoba México and Trojan Battery share two important missions–creating a first-class experience and following sustainable practices. It’s only natural that one of Mexico’s most luxurious destinations relies on Trojan batteries to power its electric boats.

“Our electric boats powered by Trojan Battery have been a key component related to sustainability. They operate without noise or harmful emissions, so they help us protect the local ecosystems while enhancing the visitor experience,” said Javier Dominguez, Marina Manager at Mayakoba.

Electric boat batteries should provide high discharge capacity, thermal stability, and efficient recharging. Trojan’s flooded lead acid batteries meet all these requirements.

The Trojan advantage

Mayakoba México, a destination in Playa del Carmen, creates a unique setting for guests. To arrive at the four luxurious hotels in the resort, guests travel by electric boat through canals and lagoons. Mayakoba's boat fleet takes nearly 140,000 guests each year through natural landscapes in its 595-acre ecosystem.

The boats also transport guests on sightseeing tours through a protected area with native wildlife and more than 300 species of birds. Expansive mangrove forests are the backdrop for this nature experience.

Reliable marine batteries are critical for Mayakoba's waterways

Making sure the fleet of 20 Duffy Electric Boats works well is key to providing the high-end experience guests want. That is why all the 21- and 22-foot boats are powered by Trojan T-105 Plus and T-145 Plus 6V Flooded Lead Acid batteries.

Trojan’s advanced T2™ technology makes these batteries rugged and high-performance, ideal for marine applications. They can handle the daily needs of the resort.

“We have selected Trojan batteries due to their superior durability and reliability for deep discharge cycles. Their recovery capacity and performance in tropical conditions have been invaluable to our success,” said Dominguez.

A reliable battery that performs day-in, day-out is critical to Dominguez. Navigating the canals is a favorite experience of guests. The electric boats must be operational at all times. Without them, the Mayakoba experience would not be the same.

High performing marine batteries control operating costs

Preserving the environment is only one benefit associated with using Trojan batteries. Another is that ongoing boat costs are significantly lower. Electric boats require less maintenance, and overall operation is more economical compared to gas-powered options.

Electric boat batteries should provide high discharge capacity, thermal stability, and efficient recharging. Trojan’s flooded lead acid batteries meet all these requirements.

Trojan's T-105 Plus and T-145 Plus are flooded batteries for boats that provide consistent performance in marine environments. Their rapid full recharge recovery with each cycle improves fleet availability and reduces downtime. This is crucial for heavy boat use. Last year, Mayakoba's fleet made 24,547 trips, which translates to 700-800 charge cycles per boat.

More than a boat battery, Trojan provides global support

Trojan marine batteries' high performance matches the service and support provided. A global company, Trojan has a presence in Mexico and works closely with the local distributor, Megafix. Mayakoba receives personalized attention, immediate responses, and effective solutions for every need.

“The support provided by Megafix and Trojan has been essential to keep our fleet operational and to facilitate the growth of our operation,” said Dominguez.

Adding AES AGM batteries for boats

Mayakoba is expanding its electric boat fleet to enhance guest experiences. They will power their newest boats with Trojan AES AGM batteries.

These advanced batteries deliver up to three times the cycle life of standard AGM batteries for boats. Trojan engineers them to perform reliably in partial state of charge (PSoC) conditions, ensuring even longer life and performance.

“Trojan is our mainstay for all our boats because they simplify maintenance and always perform. The batteries are a safe investment because they have a proven track record in our demanding sector,” said Dominguez.
